Open-Source Software
- powermgr is a program that
allows you to control power management on a Linux laptop easily. You
can create "profiles" of settings, including CPU speed, display
brightness, and many other things, and then have powermgr select the
profile based on whether your computer is plugged in, whether the
battery is low, whether you are playing a game or doing something else
that requires faster performance, and so on.
- The Linux kernel, the
Gentoo Linux distribution, and
Kismet are some free/open
source software programs that I have contributed to, in whatever small
way I can.
Websites
- Linux-Friendly Products (in progress) will
offer a database of products and vendors that helps GNU/Linux users find
hardware that works with their operating system. My hope is that, with
enough entries in the database, users of free software operating systems
will have an easy way to make informed decisions about what companies and
products to support.
